The Multi-Use Kitchen: The Design Dilemma Solved With Flexibility

November 17, 2020 //  by admin

Today’s kitchen is where the family does everything – from work to remote learning to hanging out, on top of the expected meal prep, cooking, and clean up. The kitchen is the heart of the home now more than ever before.

At the same time, what we’re seeing as a Newton kitchen remodeling company, is that families are completely over open floor plans. Having everything always on view sounds wonderful, but is hard to live with.

Bring these two factors and what do you get? The clear realization that it may be time to renovate the kitchen. A kitchen that’s full of life, love, and laughter can also get a little messy from time to time. Kitchen design that facilitates the happy, comfortable gathering while keeping the noise and visual impact contained makes sense.

What are the essential elements of a multi-function kitchen? While this list might vary somewhat from family to family, there are certain features and functionalities that make sense for a lot of Newton families. These include multi-purpose seating areas, where kids (and their adults!) can eat, do school work, and spend time with family. Having wi-fi available in the kitchen makes sense, as well as a designated storage area for the laptops, phones and other devices to be safely stowed while not in use.

Talk to your Newton kitchen contractors about your storage options. Flexible kitchen design means being open to built in, modular, and other storage options designed specifically for your family’s needs. Pantries and utility rooms are two very popular storage features, as are custom cabinetry that plays a role in dividing a formerly open room plan.

The good news is that the pandemic won’t last forever. The way we’re living right now will at some point be a distant memory. The value of the multi-function kitchen is its adaptability, so whatever the future holds, it will be ready.
