Home Energy Audits in Massachusetts.
Home energy audits are something to consider: Would you like to save money on your utility bills? Live more comfortably in your home? Or how about living more sustainably while helping the environment? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you might be a good candidate for a home energy assessment. Whether you are in need of a home energy evaluation, an upgraded heating and cooling system, insulation or duct cleaning we can help. Masters Touch can even replace your windows or your roof to improve your home’s energy efficiency.
Masters Touch’s energy auditor can come to your home in eastern Massachusetts and perform a variety of diagnostic tests. These may include a blower door test, a duct leakage test and a heating loss test using the latest infrared technology to show you exactly where your hot and cool air is escaping through leaks in your home. Upon completion of your home energy assessment we would better know what improvements your home might need to make it more comfortable and energy efficient. Listed below are a few of the ways that we can accomplish these goals.
Air Sealing
Air can leak into your house from various spots such as the crawl space, dryer vents, outside faucet penetrations or your windows. Air can also leak out of your house through attic hatches, recessed lights or the plumbing vent stack. This is where the infrared camera comes into play during your home energy audit.. It will demonstrate exactly where the air leakage and heat loss is occurring. Air sealing minimizes the air flow going in and out of the home by using caulk or spray foam to seal any leaks.
Insulation
Insulation work is typically done in conjunction with air sealing. Before adding insulation it is important to seal all of the leaks so that air is not moving in or around the insulation. Insulation is measured in “R” values, or its ability to resist heat flow. The higher the “R” value the more insulation power. Different “R” values are recommended for use in walls, ceilings, basements and crawl spaces. Masters Touch highly recommends considering spray foam insulation for your attic.
Roofing
A new roof might be for you if:
- Your current roof if 15 to 20 years old, and or approaching the limits of its lifespan.
- You want your home built with sustainable products to reduce your carbon footprint.
- You’re considering a switch to solar power, so it would make sense to look at your entire roof system.
- Remember, we recommend upgrading insulation at time of new roof to minimize change of ice dams in the future.
Windows
New windows are a way to improve the appearance of your home but they can also have a dramatic effect on your energy consumption.
- Does your monthly utility bill seem higher than it should be?
- Would you like your home to be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer?
- Have you noticed condensation on your windows, or do they stick when you try to open and close them?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions you may need new windows or at the very least some air sealing done to your home.
