Designing the Dream Master Suite: It’s Time

January 15, 2023 //  by admin

“Over the years, when you have a family home, there are repairs, remodels, and renovations that have to happen. In the late nineties, we had a new roof put on,” Glen said. The Ashland homeowner inherited his parent’s house and raised his own family there. “Then in 2016, our daughter made the decision to move back home. We had a small addition built for her and her children. But now I think it’s time for my wife and I to have some part of this house that’s designed to suit us perfectly.”

Master Suite Additions: Space, Privacy & Style

When looking at current trends in Master Suite design, three factors immediately jump out. The best Master Suite designs all have a sense of spaciousness. Open floor plans, large windows, and often, balconies, all contribute to the larger than life feel of these rooms.

That being said, it’s also essential that the master suite has an adequate sense of privacy. Homeowners are seeking a real sense of separation from the hustle and bustle of busy family life. Design choices, including the use of sound-dampening building materials, can help achieve this in a very cost-effective way.

Finally, there’s the question of style. “After a lifetime of cute and country, I’m ready for something a little more sophisticated,” Glen said. “We worked with our Ashland builder to put a more modern, luxurious spin on the space. I love the custom shower unit and the fact we have a fantastic view now.”

While the rule of thumb for a long time was to renovate a bathroom once every ten years or so, now lifestyle and real estate experts are advising upgrades once every four to five years. What we’ve found is that many homeowners defer the master bath past that decade mark, because the family needs other things first. But eventually, you should treat yourself to an enjoyable experience within your home.
