“Growing up, the kitchen was my Mother’s domain. She had everything exactly the way she wanted it, and I hated it,” Stephanie laughed. “It was very charming, in its own way, with lots of country touches – hearts and ribbons, all of that. But that’s not at all what I want for my kitchen.”
Stephanie began remodeling her Newton home as soon as she bought it. “The family room was a disaster, and that’s where we started fixing things up. Now that’s completed, and it’s got a cool, modern vibe that’s much more my style. What I’d like to do is extend that look into the kitchen. Out with the old, in with the new!”
When you’re planning your kitchen renovation, it’s very important to know what you want and what you don’t. In Stephanie’s case, she knew that a clean, streamlined look free from extraneous detail was for her. “No cabinet doors for me, and no fussy hardware!” she exclaimed. “Make it sleek, sophisticated, and comfortable to be in.”

Exploring Kitchen Design Collections
If you’re wondering what types of design collections are out there for your kitchen remodel, there are several options to suit every personality—and every preference for “old vs. New.”
- Contemporary & Modern: Think clean lines, minimal clutter, and a no-nonsense approach to storage and surfaces. These collections put the spotlight on innovative materials like quartz or glass, handleless cabinetry, integrated appliances, and a general “less is more” aesthetic. If Stephanie’s vision of a no-cabinet-door, sleek environment resonates, this is the category you’ll love.
- Transitional: Can’t quite say goodbye to tradition, but crave a bit of the modern edge? Transitional kitchens pull the best of both worlds—simple cabinetry, streamlined fixtures, but softened with warmer finishes or thoughtfully chosen accents. It’s that Goldilocks zone between cozy classic and crisp contemporary, ideal for anyone who wants their kitchen to feel inviting yet up to date.
- Classical & Traditional: For those with a soft spot for time-honored elegance, classical and traditional kitchen collections bring ornate details, natural woods, and timeless hardware into focus. These spaces often feature raised panel doors, crown molding, and the kind of craftsmanship that never goes out of style—a far cry from Stephanie’s mother’s country hearts-and-ribbons, but classic in their own right.
Whether you gravitate toward European-inspired minimalism or the inviting symmetry of Shaker cabinets, choosing the right collection is a chance to give your kitchen a lasting sense of personality and purpose.
