Kitchen Design Trends That Have Had Their Day

August 15, 2019 //  by admin

If you’re planning to renovate the kitchen in your Needham home, chances are you’ve spent more than a little time checking out design ideas on Instagram, Pinterest, or in your favorite home center. There’s a lot of exciting ideas out there – but how do you know which ideas are a flash-in-the-pan style that will date quickly and cause regret and which have timeless appeal?

Architectural Digest recently addressed this question, with their experts weighing in on the kitchen design trends that just aren’t working anymore. Top on their list of looks to skip – the patterned accent wall (it’s been overdone and distracts from the cohesiveness of the room) as well as waterfall countertops. Granite countertops and tiled backsplashes – which are both classic kitchen style choices – get called out as being too expensive when used in combination.

If all of this advice is leaving you feeling confused or overwhelmed, don’t stress it. There’s real-world, practical help available for your Needham kitchen remodel. Our team knows the value of a trend – they can inspire and delight, and when appropriate, used to create a specific impact – as well as the fundamentals of classic kitchen design that will serve a family well for years.

The trick to a successful kitchen remodel is to begin the process early. Don’t be afraid to invest time into researching your options. Time spent examining design ideas and thinking seriously about how your family is most likely to use and enjoy the kitchen pays off when you meet with your Needham kitchen designer – they’ll be able to take what you’ve figured out, build on it, and come to you with a plan that integrates your vision with industry best practices for a stunning result.

As a rule of thumb, if your plan is to stay in your home for ten or more years, don’t worry about whether or not your kitchen choices are too trendy: if you like them, that’s what matters. Anyone who eventually buys a home with 10+ years on the kitchen will inevitably remodel it anyway. But if you’re planning a faster sale, skip the trends and stick with classic design. You can’t go wrong!
