“They say you can have a dinner party with only 4 people, but I’ve never managed it,” Julia laughed. The Hopkinton homeowner loves throwing parties. “On average, I’d say we have ten people when it’s a small gathering – and more like 40 when we want to have a really good time.”
An avid cook and baker, Julia enjoys spending time in her kitchen. “I’d enjoy it more if the kitchen was designed for entertaining.” On her wishlist – many of the items appreciated by professional caterers and other professionals who prepare large quantities of food frequently: double ovens, double dishwashers, warming drawers, and refrigerated drawers for wine and other beverages. “And of course, I need a split-level counter,” Julia explained. “That way my guests can sit on one side and be entertained while I’m on the other side, with all of the culinary magic taking place strategically out of sight.”
Planning a Kitchen Remodel: Vision, Inspiration and Dreams
When you entertain frequently, planning a kitchen renovation can seem overwhelming. Professional kitchen designers make the process easier by systematically working through the unique functional needs of the entertaining household.
For example, kitchen storage. While everyone needs an organized way to keep cookware and food, households that entertain frequently need additional space for things like table linens, serving platters, and all of the stuff that goes into living the good life. Households who employ catering teams often appreciate having a second or butler’s kitchen, equipped with cook top, oven, sink and other appliances. This allows all the food prep and clean up to take place safely out of sight.
“It’s all about creating a fantastic experience for your guests,” Julia said, “while acknowledging that you do have to live in this kitchen on a day to day basis too. There’s a certain pleasure that comes in knowing you can cook a perfect breakfast for two in the same space that you prepare a Super Bowl party for thirty.”
