“I know everyone’s been saying this, but it’s true: throughout everything that’s been going on, when I really need some peace and serenity, I come to my kitchen.” Regina, who owns a home in the Wayland area, didn’t used to be much of a cook. “But now I’ve learned how to make jam, and bake bread, and even corn-dogs from scratch, much to my teenager’s delight.”
“When I’m cooking, I just want to be able to concentrate on what I’m doing,” she explained. “I don’t want to have the news playing or my phone blowing up with 600 notifications. It’s just me and the recipe and whatever we need to make it happen.”
“I was surprised how much kitchen design impacts how much fun it is to cook,” Regina said. “We had the Wayland kitchen designers come in when we first bought this house because the kitchen was just wrong. It wasn’t set up so you could do anything. They absolutely transformed the space by changing the workflow. We had an island in here that I thought I would miss, but when I actually had enough countertop space to work on, the smaller, sleeker island the designers put in made it much easier for everyone to move around and enjoy being in the kitchen.”
“Cooking is really about togetherness too. We have two children – a 15 year old and an 8 year old – and it’s special to be able to spend some of this time with them making memories. My husband’s Mother passed when they were very little but we made some of the cookies from her recipe cards. A little thing but it gave them a sense of who she was.”
“If you’re not enjoying being in your kitchen, it may be the layout,” Regina said. “Have the kitchen designer come in and look around. They can offer suggestions that make the kitchen work better without spending a ton of money. When you like being in your kitchen, you use it more – and that makes the whole family happy.”
