“This house was built in the 1930’s,” Jeannie said. “And there were a few unfortunate changes made to the place before I was able to purchase it.” The kitchen is the site of what Jeannie finds the most distressing. “There’s one set of changes that happened in the 1970’s, as far as I can tell, and then in the 90’s, all of this country cabinetry was put in. It’s overwhelming.”
A Modern Kitchen with a Vintage Vibe
“What I’d like to do is restore the kitchen to its original style,” Jeannie said. “Not the appliances, obviously – I like technology! But I’d like a kitchen that looks like it fits with the rest of the house.”
When searching for a kitchen contractor who can honor the history of the home while incorporating modern convenience, Jeannie identified the ability to listen as being extremely important. “At first I thought I was going to need an architect, and I met with a few firms, but they were very much about their vision for the house. And I said to myself, what about my vision? I’m the person who has to live in this house?”
Based on a recommendation from a friend, Jeannie reached out to a design-build contractor that specializes in kitchen renovations. “That’s when everything changed,” she said. “I explained what I wanted to do and why I wanted to do it – and they focused on making it happen.”

The Advantages of a Design-Build Kitchen Contractor
“What I really enjoyed about choosing a design-build kitchen contractor is that I only had to speak to one person over the duration of this project. Everything was coordinated and arranged without me needing to track down a bunch of different people or inform anyone about any changes that had to be made.” Jeannie said. “It was a fast and efficient process. Once everything got started, that ugly old kitchen was out and my new kitchen was in very rapidly.”
